LEESBURG, Fla. (Volleyball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) volleyball team wrapped up the 2025 regular season over the week with a pair of top-25 matchups against Pensacola State College and Gulf Coast State College.
The Lakehawks defeated No. 8 Pensacola State College thrilling five set match on Friday evening to split their series for the season. On Saturday, the Lakehawks lost to No. 4 Gulf Coast State for the second time this season in three sets.
No. 23 Lake-Sumter vs. No. 8 Pensacola State (21-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-18, 16-14)
After dropping the first two sets, the Lakehawks battled back for a huge upset win over the Pirates on Friday night.
Samantha Beatty, Brooke Fintak, and Giada Viti all posted double doubles contributing to the win.
Beatty had 12 kills and 22 digs while Fintak had 12 kills and 12 digs. Viti had 25 assists with 18 digs.
Joselyn Wanberg had a career-high 30 digs.
The Lakehawks' five-set win marked their first win over Pensacola State dating back to the 2022 regular season.
No. 23 Lake-Sumter vs. No. 4 Gulf Coast State (16-25, 20-25, 18-25)
The Lakehawks wrapped up the regular season with a disappointing loss to the Commodores.
In the three set loss, the Lakehawks had just 27 to the Commodores' 43. While their opponent had a high 63 digs, the Lakehawks did put up an offensive fight, but ultimately were unable to keep up with the opposing charge.
The Lakehawks finish the regular season with a 23-5 overall record with a 15-5 record in Sun-Lakes Conference play. After one of the most successful regular seasons in program history, the team now looks ahead to the post season.
Lake-Sumter now awaits the 2025 FCSAA Division II Volleyball Championship on Nov. 7-8. The Lakehawks will enter the tournament as the #4 seed. More information regarding the upcoming championship can be found here.
