LEESBURG, Fla. (Volleyball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) volleyball team continued Sun-Lakes Conference play with a pair of matches against Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) and No. 23 St. Johns River State College (SJRSC). The Lakehawks lost a close match to SJRSC 3-2 before traveling to Jacksonville for a three-set win over FSCJ.
No. 21 Lake-Sumter vs. No. 23 SJRSC (25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 12-25, 8-15)
Tuesday's match was a battle of wits with the teams going back and forth each set, but the Vikings ultimately outhit the Lakehawks 60 (.281) kills to 47 (.130)
Samantha Beatty registered 14 kills and 10 digs, her 15th double double of the season. Brooke Fintak and Emma Van Deusen each logged double digit kills.
Giada Viti had 28 assists while, back in the libero position, Jocelyn Wanberg recorded 20 digs.
With the loss, the Lakehawks and the Vikings split their series for the regular season.
No. 21 Lake-Sumter vs. FSCJ (25-13, 25-16, 25-18)
The Lakehawks traveled to Jacksonville for their second matchup of the season against the Manta Rays. Lake-Sumter won in straight sets outhitting FSCJ 43 kills (.239) to 27 (.068).
Brianna Harlan recorded 10 kills with four digs and three blocks.
Beatty and Wanberg each recorded double digit digs.
The Lakehawks improve to 22-4 on the season, 14-4 in Sun-Lakes Conference action. The Lakeahwks remain fourth in conference standing.
Next week, Lake-Sumter will host top-10 ranked Pensacola State College and Gulf Coast State College. On the road earlier in the season Pensacola defeated LSSC in four sets while Gulf Coast took the win in three.
