Lakehawk Softball Splits with Seminole State
LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball hosted Seminole State College (SSC) on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference double header. The Lakehawks won game one 11-6 and the Raiders took game two 17-10.
Game 1 – SSC 6, LSSC 11
Behind 13 hits and a go-ahead grand slam, the Lakehawks defeated the Raiders for the first time in over 10 years.
The Lakehawks took the lead over the Raiders in the bottom of the second after a solo homerun from freshman Baylie Goodwin, her first of the season.
Seminole State took the lead in the third 5-1 before Goodwin launched her second homer of the game, this time a three-run shot to center field.
A pair of base hits from Malayla Miller and Jamie Hegedus and a Raider error allowed Miller to score, tying the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth. The Lakehawks took the lead after a sac fly from Emmy Lee scored Hegedus from third.
The Raiders tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth with a solo homerun.
Lake-Sumter answered back in the bottom of the sixth after loading the bases with three singles, Lee blasted her second homerun of the season in grand slam fashion to take the lead 10-6.
Seminole State was unable to answer back in their final at bat allowing the Lakehawks to claim victory.
Lee went 2-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Goodwin went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored.
Miller, Hegedus, and Mittie O'Brien added two hits each.
Caitlyn Frampton recorded the win on the mound with 3.0 innings pitched. She allowed just one earned run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Sydney Klein closed out the game and logged her second save of the season.
Game 2 – SSC 17, LSSC 10
Seminole State came out swinging in game two, taking a three-run lead in the top of the first. They added one more to the board in the third before the Lakehawks crossed the plate for the first time.
With J. Hegedus and Maya Hegedus on base in the bottom of the third, hits from Lee and O'Brien scored tree runs. With two outs, a single down the right field line from Kennedy Howard scored O'Brien to tie up the score at 4-4.
The Lakehawks took the lead 5-4 in the fourth after another clutch hit from O'Brien scored J. Hegedus from second. Emma Christensen joined in on the offensive charge with a single to score M. Hegedus extending the lead 6-4.
The Raiders took the lead back 8-6 in the top of the fifth. The Lakehawks trailing by two, Miller and Howard scored one with back-to-back doubles bottom half of the frame.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Lakehawks took the lead back once again after a leadoff double from Lee. She was able to advance around the bases and score on an infield ground ball to tie up the game.
A solo homerun from Christensen gave Lake-Sumter a 9-8 lead over Seminole State going into the top of the seventh.
The Raiders came back in their final at bat to score nine runs, taking the lead and all of the momentum the Lakehawks previously held. Lake-Sumter scored one in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to fight back from the deficit.
M. Hegedus went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Lee, O'Brien, Christensen, and Howard had two hits each.
Klein recorded the loss on the mound with 2.1 innings pitched.
