LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) Softball split with Florida Gateway College on Tuesday afternoon to conclude the 2025 regular season. For the year, the Lakehawks went 4-1 against the Wolves.
Prior to the double header, the Lakehawks honored 13 sophomores: Bryanna Anderson, Macie Bourgholtzer, Sammi Thomas, Kaitlyn Duquette, Savannah Ellis, Amy Bak, Nicol Werking, Valeria Rolon, Megan Wright, Sara White, Payton Parkes, Emma Chisholm, and, team manager, Hennessey Rodriguez.
Game 1 – Florida Gateway 2, Lake-Sumter 2
The Wolves got a lead in game one enough to snag a win over the Lakehawks.
Ellis, Malayla Miller, and Emma Christensen each went 2-for-3. Christensen recorded one RBI.
Bak took the loss for game one with 4.0 innings pitched. She allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Ellis took the mound in the fifth in relief. She allowed four runs, all unearned, on two hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Game 2 – Lake-Sumter 7, Florida Gateway 0
Out for revenge in game two, the Lakehawks defeated the Wolves 7-0, outhitting their opponent 14 hits to one.
Ellis continues her hot streak at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk. Wright also went 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Duquette took the mound in game two tossing a one-hit shutout recording her 10th win of the season. In addition to one hit early in the game, she allowed just three walks with three strikeouts.
Lake-Sumter improves to 37-15 on the year with a 22-6 record in conference play, maintaining the second spot in conference standing. The Wolves improve to 30-30 with a 14-16 conference record to clinch the fourth and final spot in the tournament.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, State College of Florida will be unable to compete on Saturday bringing the Lakehawks' regular season to an end.
Lake-Sumer now awaits the 2025 FCSAA DII Softball Championship on May 1-3. The Lakehawks will enter the championship as the #2 seed.
