PALATKA, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) Softball traveled to No. 1 St. Johns River State College to continue Sun-Lakes Conference play on Thursday evening. The Vikings snapped the Lakehawks' historic 24-game win streak after taking both games of the double header.
Game 1 – SJRSC 7, LSSC 2
The Vikings offense came out swinging in game one taking a 7-0 lead after three innings.
In the top of the fourth with the bases loaded, a single to right field from Payton Parkes scored two runs.
The remainder of the game was scoreless for both teams, allowing SJRSC to secure the win.
Emma Christensen went 2-for-3 with on run scored. Payton Parkes went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Amy Bak recorded the loss for game one with 3.0 innings pitched. She allowed seven runs, six earned, on eight hits with three walks.
Kendal Rumer pitched 1.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits. Kaitlyn Duquette pitched the sixth inning to close out game one.
Game 2 – SJRSC 6, LSSC 0
After a solo homerun in the third, St. Johns River State kept the lead for the remainder of the game, holding the Lakehawk offence to just three hits.
Parkes, Sammi Thomas, and Nicol Werking each had one hit. Valeria Rolon drew a pair of walks.
Starting pitched Savannah Ellis recorded the loss in game two with 4.1 innings pitched. She allowed six runs, five earned, on 10 hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Duquette took the mound in the relief in the fifth inning. She held the Vikings hitless and scoreless for the remaining 1.2 innings.
With two losses to the Vikings, the Lakehawks move to 33-13 on the season. Lake-Sumter remains ranks second in conference standing and clinched a spot in the Region 8 Championship with just eight games left in the season.
The Lakehawks will be back in Sun-Lakes Conference action on Saturday, Apr. 12 at South Florida State College.
