No. 15 Lakehawk Softball Takes Double Header Against FSCJ
LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball extended their historic win streak to 24 with a pair of Sun-Lakes Conference over Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). The Lakehawks defeated the Manta Rays 4-1 and 8-0.
Game One – Lake-Sumter 4, FSCJ 1
After a scoreless 1.5 innings, Emma Christensen led off the bottom of the second inning with a double.
A single from Megan Wright moved Christensen into scoring position for Shannen Luksha to score her with a double to left field.
The Manta Rays tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the fourth, Wright and Savannah Ellis reached base with a pair of singles. Wright scored the Lakehawks second run on a pass ball from the catcher.
Singles from Christensen, Wright, and Ellis scored the Lakehawks' third run. Then, a sacrifice fly from Luksha scored Wright extending the Lakehawks' lead 4-1.
Wright went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Luksha went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Amy Bak tossed a complete-game for the win improving to 12-2 on the season. She allowed one run on eighth hits with six strikeouts.
Game Two – Lake-Sumter 8, FSCJ 0 (5 innings)
The Lakehawks took a 1-0 lead in the first after Macie Bourgholtzer scored on a pass ball.
Christensen led off the bottom of the third with a single up the middle. Lily Mitchell entered the game to pinch run for Christensen and scored from first on a double from Valeria Rolon.
Luksha came up next, extending the Lakehawks' lead 4-0 with a two-run homerun.
The Lakehawks added one more run in the third after Nicol Werking reached on a walk and advanced around the bases to score by capitalizing on Manta Ray mistakes.
In the bottom of the fifth, Luksha took first on a hit-by-pitch and Sammi Thomas drew a walk. A double from Payton Parkes scored Luksha and allowed Thomas to advance to third.
A single from Emma Chisholm scored Thomas extending the Lakehawk lead 7-0. Another single from Christensen loaded the bases for Wright to draw a walk for the Lakehawks' eighth run and the mercy rule win.
Chisholm went 2-for-4 with on RBI. Luksha went 1-for-1 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and one walk.
Ellis recorded the win to improve to 9-5 on the year. She tossed a one-hit shutout with one strikeout.
With a pair of wins over the Manta Rays, the Lakehawks improve to 33-11 with an 18-2 record in Sun-Lakes Conference. The Lakehawks are set to continue conference play on Thursday at No. 1 St. Johns River State College at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
