Lakehawk Track & Field Competes at UCF
ORLANDO, Fla. (Track & Field) – The Lake-Sumter State College Track & Field teams traveled to UCF for the Black and Gold Challenge which featured a highly competitive field with programs representing NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA institutions.
Sophomore Spencer Palmer competed in a deep field in the men's 800m, running 1:53.59 for 29th of 58 in competition. He took 28th overall in the event and finished third in his heat.
Thatcher Clark delivered one of the top performances of the meet for the Lakehawks, placing fourth overall in the 2000m Steeplechase with a time of 6:30.52. Elijah Palmer competed in the 1500m Invtiational and clocked a time of 4:01.64.
In field events, Judson Nichols-Webb placed fifth of 16 in the Javelin with a throw of 57.51m. He currently ranks fifth nationally with this mark.
On the women's side, Oksanna Smith delivered a standout performance in the 400m Hurdles, running a personal best of 1:02.76 for 13th out of 30 competitors. She currently ranks second nationally, positioning her among the top hurdlers in the country.
The women's 4x100 relay team of Alexia Benson, Skyler Carter, Sydnee Massey, and Jameria Sutton posted a time of 48.69, finishing just one second short of the NJCAA qualifying standard. Their time ranks sixth nationally.
Head Coach Cristy Snellgroves shared her thoughts, "This was a highly competitive meet and a great opportunity for our athletes to test themselves among some of the top programs in the country. Oksanna had a standout performance in the hurdles and continues to trend in the right direction."
"Spencer competed tough in a crowed race and showed great composure while Elijah had a strong return with a solid performance as he continues to build back. Overall, this was a positive step forward for the group and we are looking forward to continued progress as the season develops."
The Lakehawks look to build on these performances as the team continues its outdoor campaign in the coming weeks.
