LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – The Lake-Sumter State (LSSC) baseball team continued their nonconference matchups over the weekend against Hillsborough College (HC). The Lakehawks took the series after a pair of wins on Friday afternoon in Tampa, Fla.
Game 1 – Hillsborough 1, Lake-Sumter 5
Alex Galan, Noah Morales, and Brady Byers had two hits each in the win. Byers recorded a pair of RBIs.
Starting pitcher Jack Johnson recorded the win on the mound with 5.2 scoreless innings and six strikeouts. JD Aragort recorded the save with 1.1 innings pitched.
Game 2 – Hillsborough 5, Lake-Sumter 14
Byers and Galan continue to get it done at the plate for the Lakehawks with three hits each. Galan had two runs scored with one RBI and Byers scored three times.
Robert Kohler went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Thomas Velardi was 1-for-2 with three RBIs and one run scored.
With 5.0 innings pitched, Corey Peters recorded the win on the mound improving to 2-0 on the year. He allowed just two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
Game 3 – Hillsborough 9, Lake-Sumter 5 (13 innings)
The Hawks and Lakehawks returned to Leesburg for the series finale on Saturday afternoon. Hillsborough took the lead right away for the first time in the series.
Down by four by the fourth inning, the Lakehawks slowly picked away at the lead. Scoring one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two in the seventh, Lake-Sumter was able to tie up the score.
The game went to 13 innings, a pitching battle from both sides in the back half of the game. The Hawks scored four runs in the top of the 13th, a lead the Lakehawks could not comeback from.
With two wins over Hillsborough, the Lakehawks improve to 5-2 on the season.
