LEESBURG, Fla. (Athletics) – More spring sports are set to begin this week, as Beach Volleyball gets underway and women's golf will tee it up starting Monday of next week. Here is a quick look at what has happened and what is coming up next for LSSC Athletics.
Baseball
- The offense was clicking for baseball, as the Lakehawks scored 28 runs over three games in a 2–1 series victory over Hillsborough Community College last weekend
- A loss to Daytona State on Tuesday moved the team's season record to 5–3
- Next up is a single game at home against Santa Fe College on Friday. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
- Player Highlight: Sophomore RHP Jack Johnson was named the FCSAA DII Pitcher of the Week after pitching a 5.0 inning shutout in his start against Hillsborough
Beach Volleyball
- Beach Volleyball will begin their road back to Nationals Friday hosting Florida State College at Jacksonville and Palm Beach State College
- As announced in December, the Lake Jem Farms Beach Court Complex will be home to the FCSAA Championship held in April. The tournament will decide which teams compete at the NJCAA Championships
Women's Golf
- Having not competed since late October, the Lakehawk Women's Golf team is anxious to tee it high and let it fly
- The team will travel to Lake City, Fla., for the Florida Gateway Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 9-10)
Men's & Women's Indoor Track
- The second indoor track event featured several additional top-5 and top-10 finishes as the team competed at Celebration Point in a two-day meet
- Jaden Miller placed fourth in the women's long jump, while Mark Fyffe finished third on the men's side
- The relay team of Chris Morinvil, Spencer Palmer, Elijah Palmer, and Noah Kaegi placed second in their event
- Amaya Mitchell rounded out the top-5 finishes by placing second in the high jump.
- The final indoor track meet of the season will take place Friday at Celebration Point during the Visit Gainesville Indoor Classic
Softball
- A four-game sweep of Gordon State over the weekend saw the Lakehawks score 43 runs on 38 hits
- On Tuesday, LSSC hosted Seminole State College, winning game one before falling in game two. This moved the team's season record to 7–3
- On Thursday, softball is set to host Polk State for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m
