Leesburg, Fla. – The athletics department at Lake-Sumter State College is very excited to congratulate Nikki Sauerbrey on being named Teacher of the Year at Tavares High School.
Sauerbrey, who rejoined the LSSC softball coaching staff in 2016, was notified of the honor Tuesday at THS. In 2009, the former Valencia and Seminole State softball star took over as the head softball coach at Tavares until 2015, but remains a full time teacher at the school.
"We could not be happier for our pitching coach," said Head Softball Coach, Jay Miller. "We all know and love Nikki and to be honest, I don't know if there is a more deserving person to get such high recognition. All of our girls were very excited and happy for her when they heard the news."
Sauerbrey is now eligible for Lake County Teacher of the Year.
